A Summit on Research Ethics and Human Subject Protections in Infectious Disease Outbreak
Widespread infectious disease outbreaks at a regional, national or international level pose a particular problem for research ethics. The SuMo Experience was invited to design and facilitate a weekend summit with major stakeholders to develop a consensus regarding rapid and robust ethics review of human subjects research in the context of an infectious disease outbreak.
“The meeting was a success and we appreciate your efforts enormously. The fundamentally optimistic and productive perspective of the appreciative inquiry technique lent itself to this sort of potentially divisive heterogeneous grouping with some old grudges and bad experiences. There appeared to be genuine appreciation of the other side consistently and some movement of opinion.”
